My friend Fergie uses an old computer power supply to provide a constant 12v DC to a car CD player to use in a home.

HOW TO: Take the green wire from the PSU (Power Supply Unit) and connect it to any black wire also on the PSU. Next, connect the power (red) and the ignition wire (yellow) from the Head Unit to any 12V (yellow) wire from the PSU. Connect any black wire from the PSU to the black ground on the Head Unit.

  • DON'T DO IT! i just broke my stereo.. it way working good for like 5minutes, and then it whent up in smoke...

  • @QenZi Even though I am not responsible for others equipment, I feel bad because I did not specify what kind of speakers can be hooked up. You should NOT hook house speakers up to a car reciever. It may work momentarily but it will prematurely fail. House speakers are 8-ohms. Car speakers are 4-ohms. Car recievers are made for 4-ohms speakers, sometimes 2-ohms but never 8-ohms.

  • hot you connect a car cd player to a laptopp

  • @set040 the head unit has to have RCA inputs or a headphone jack (3.5mm) input. In other words, any form of AUX in. If it doesn't, you can use an FM transmitter.

  • how to install pc on cd player?

  • @latrays you dont open the power supply.......

  • @vteckid12 should be on the main wiring harness 4th pin in from the right.

  • @QenZi dude it works fine.

  • First thing i learned in my computer repair class NEVER open a power supply it stores high voltage even when it has been unplugged IT WILL KNOCK YOU OUT. if you touch the wrong thing.

  • Good idea. I have some extra power supplies, speakers, and amp and recently I have a CD player I took out of my car and swapped. I guess I'll hook it up to blast in my garage.

  • that was so rad brill
