Exit's pro-choice, voluntary euthanasia TVC was banned by Australia's commercial TV regulating authority, CAD. The script was approved and a CAD number issued before commissioning the $50,000 project. Screening permission was withdrawn shortly before the first planned screening on Channel 7 Sun12 Sept 2010.

Reasons provided: 'CAD has withdrawn the CAD number for the Voluntary Euthanasia TVC on the basis that it does not comply with section 2.17 of the Commercial Television Industry Code of Practice. Section 2.17.5 provides that a realistic depiction of methods of suicide, or promotion or encouragement of suicide is material that will invariably be unsuitable for television.'

We have considered that an advertisement for voluntary euthanasia is a promotion or encouragement of suicide as voluntary euthanasia would be considered to be a subset of suicide.'

Exit International is now considering legal action to this flawed legal-political reasoning.

if you claim to respect human life, why is it that you do not respect a human beings capacity to make decisions about their own life. Individual autonomy is a human right, and because human rights serve to protect human life, why is it that your claim to respect human life does not extend to respect for a persons right to control how they leave this world? Seems to me that the scope of your alleged "respect" is rather limited

  • @RonSafreed We're not asking for every ill person to be euthanised. We're asking for a CHOICE. So, if you and your family wish, you can die 'naturally', it's just horribly unfair to disallow others who may be in terrible agony for years the right to die so the choice isn't even merely availble to you. Why would you want to keep alive these people just to endure there suffering? It's sadistic.

Youre not being "pro-living" or "pro-natural death". Youre just being anti-choice.

  • Well, that's easy. Same answer for that question as for this... throw them in solitary, tell them they're in it for life, and toss in a belt/rope etc. I really wonder how many of the people who heard about sadaam or osama's killings were like, "YEAHH! KILL THAT MOFO!" also opposed the death penalty.

  • @snaveleber You have no problem with death penalty though?

  • If you want to DIE... do it yourself! You want the governments to condone more murder! (after abortion has already been allowed)

  • Why was this banned?

  • The reason our Governments dont allow voluntary euthanasia is because WE ARE NO GOOD TO THEM DEAD. We are their food, we are their drugs, we are their LIVESTOCK...do u have ANY IDEA how much fucking MONEY they make per year on sick people? Our suffering is their bank deposit. We get some stupid ache somewhere and go to the hospital then come home with some new shit, then have to go back, etc etc ad nauseum...they WANT us to get sick, why else would they spray chemicals into the sky for no reason

  • 85%?then, change the gov

  • wtf?

  • @RonSafreed - if I had alzhimers I would *want* to put *myself* out of *my* misery before the disease stole too much of me. Different people want different things. All the video is asking for is *choice*
