In Mack Brown's first year at UNC, the NC State Wolfpack and Coach Dick Sheridan beat the Tar Heels 48-3.

UNC understood how bad a situation Mack Brown stepped into. They literally had guys on scholarship that had been turned down by Appalachian and WCU. In '88, he lost with Dick Crum's players and in '89, he lost with his own freshmen who weren't ready. There was discontent with him years later, but only because UNC underachieved with good talent. He didn't have a chance his first two years.

I remember that they UNC was about to run him out of town, now look at how well he is doing.

In Mack Brown's 1st 2 seasons at Carolina, the Tarheels only won 2 games. Many schools would have fired the coach after 2 seasons like this. Looks like they made a good decision to hold onto Mack!

Dick Sheridan was the man. Hopefully Tom O' Brien will dominate the Tar Heels as Sheridan did.
