It didn't last too long in black and white, you mean, 'headphone'. After ONE "test" episode in color in the fall of '61, Ford Motor Company (its sponsor) and NBC wanted the show to be seen in color. At that time, Screen Gems wouldn't have paid to film the show in color themselves [they were notoriously cheap], but Ford had the advertising budget to insist it be filmed in color from season two on....
