So you live in Seattle, you used to play bass in a world-changing rock band, but these days youve got some time on your hands. What to do? Well, if youre Krist Novoselic of Nirvana or Duff McKagan formerly of Guns N Roses, currently of Velvet Revolver, the answer is clear: You blog for the Seattle Weekly. This week, Novoselic celebrated his first year of blogging by recapping the epic tale of the Nirvana/Guns N Roses clash at the 1992 Video Music Awards.
You may remember the story: Axl Rose gets teased by Courtney Love backstage, and in response Axl steps to Courtneys husband, Kurt Cobain, to tell him to keep his lady in line. Words are exchanged! Axl challenges Kurt to get in the ring! And like every other similar challenge, it never happens.
Heres what does: Nirvana go onstage and play Lithium, and the whole thing explodes into anarchy. Stage divers? Check! Novoselic tossing his bass 20 feet into air, failing to catch it and getting conked on the head? Check! Cobain and drummer Dave Grohl attacking their instruments? Check! Its an awesome example of what never happens on MTV anymore—but happens at M.I.A. shows all the time.
In his blog post, Novoselic talks about meeting McKagan backstage in 92, long before they were friends and blog-leagues (I think Duff was also under the influence. He must have heard something from Rose and had a terse word for me) and reveals which 70s rock god was in the green room waiting with some chilled medicine for his injury.

alll rock bands sound the fucking same regardless of who singing classic , metal ,heavy mental, alt. blues, punk , goth, garage bands, all the same they all had the same dream to make it and they did tell the life of the rock star kickis in some bands sell out(bret michels-kidrock) and thous who just brok up (GNR) they all fucking rock
nirvana was more punk influenced, soundgarden and alice in chains more black sabbath influenced. While pearl jam was more folk/classic rock influenced. They couldn't be more different like MISTER said. All of those 80's bands were done in by cheesy vocalists like bach, neil, and rose.Only white trailer park trash liked GNR,and those hair metal bands. That mostly consists of scuzzy skanks with big hair, and fat wannabe hells angels.
dude all types of rock are the same regardless of wat band is playing they all at some point in tim play the came cord have the same drum beats even hit the same vocal pitch.. look a tenacious d they prove that 2 fat guts who can't sing worth shit they made it GNR is a great band what band do u like ???
Wrong, are you gonna sit there and tell me that nirvana,SG,PJ,and alice in chains sounded alike?JACK,those were the only bands that brought any originality to the rock mainstream in the 90's.The bands that made it in the 80's for the most part DID sound alike, with lame led zeppelin, iron maiden, aerosmith imatations like whitesnake, skid row,and gnr. They all screeched out these cheeseball vocals with boring lyrics.Did they have great musicians?absolutely...but the singers are what made them weak
MafiaD56 dont take this the wrong way dude but i personally love hair metal and face it if it wasnt for hair metal or glam metal whicever you want to call it there wouldnt be all this pop that people seem to like listning to nowadays. p.s im assuming ur a heavy metal fan?
Nirvana a trend HA! Could it be that they stopped touring and making music because kurt Cobain DIED!!! Nirvana was the most influentual band of the 90's and They brought back Real songwrting rather then that shitty hair metal garbage.
