Vedic literalism through an atheist's eyes:

Hinduism is the belief that the creator of the world hatched out of an egg that grew out of a lotus flower that grew out of the navel of a god that had ten mortal incarnations, one being a rampant polygamist, another a man who said he was not divine or a god and rejected Hinduism completely, and finally a man who befriended an army of monkeys that built a bridge between India and Sri Lanka. These two gods and another god are also millions of gods, but are really just one god, Brahman the Supreme Being.

Yes, there is Vedic literalism, just like there is Biblical, Quranic and Talmudic literalism.

  • I think the monkey army is much better than jesus' whiny brigade.

  • All religions are unrealistic. To argue which is more believable is a waste of time.

  • Well done, SaimDI.

Google 'Nirmukta' for more about how Hindus resort to muddling and revisionism of facts to present contradictory ideas about Hinduism. So while some Hindus promote purely new-age like mysticism, others are much more literalistic. Others use the Hindu religious label to refer to many things that are simply part of India culture. In fact, the Hindu religious label has simply appropriated many aspects of India culture.

  • this isnt Vedic literalism rather western racist literalism - none of the stuff metioned here is remotely present in Vedas or vedanta. Thiis sounds more like 19th century christian missionary propoganda.

  • "SYMBOLISM hasnt played any active roles in ANY religion"

If you accept your religion's mythology as symbolism, I respect you more for it.

"whats different about about hinduism and other religions?"

Nothing. I think they're all bullshit.

"those who judge and jeer others and their beliefs are nothing but supremists, ethnocentrics, and ignorant"

Wow, accusations of racism and cultural bigotry now? Belief =/= identity.

    "respect others"

    So do I.

    "and their beliefs."

    This is where we differ.

  • Yes, reading Stephen Hawking would make me convert to Hinduism. I get it.

That's why the scientific consensus is that Hinduism is true, right? Oh wait...

  • hey dude. Listen, don't be so ready to ridicule a religion when you haven't reached a level of intellect or mental capacity to understand things. My suggestion, start by reading Stephen Hawking's A brief history of time. Expand your scientific knowledge, and then read about the arts, code language, reading between the lines, historic tradition of ancient civilizations etc., and revisit this topic.

  • ok Saim your saying Vedic Literism is clearly false. The absurd thing is Vedic language Sanskrit and the way it was presented in the past was through symbolic art language. You cannot comprehend something in Hinduism straight through. This attempt to ridicule Vedic Teachings was pretty sad try degrading Hinduism's philosophy through its actual meanings instead of clear cut observations made by you who apparantly has no background knowledge in Hinduism either regarding from your details.
