Hello Everyone! This is going to be a first impressions video (and a sort of mini-review and discussion) about my first Hakuhodo brush. I got this in a swap with a truly amazing subscriber, so you can expect:

An un-biased review that does not JUST discuss how soft these Hakuhodo makeup brushes are :) LOL, of course they are soft (most brushes are "soft")!! But do they work?

Brush Featured: Kokutan Finishing Brush LAG (E0173)

Thanks so much for watching! If you have any Hakuhodo brushes, tell me which ones you have and if you like/recommend them. Make sure to definitely leave a comment if you have any critiques of the brush line!

Basically, I praise these brushes for a few reasons. But I also raise a few issues that may call the usefulness of these brushes into question; namely, the size of the brush heads and the excessive softness (i.e. the inability to pick up and place product). Reflect on this issue if you have more knowledge than me on this subject. Let's start a dialogue!

Check out this video (mentioned in my video) from Luv2Luv77. He discusses 4 other Hakuhodo brushes and raises some of the same concerns I noted: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pR0qQtYNzn4

The following list is a short list of the brushes I have my eye on. I think I am going to buy these brushes in the order you see them below. PLEASE tell me if you have any of these brushes and what you think! If you know where I can get a discount on any of these, also make sure to tell me haha :) :

Again, thanks so much for watching! I hope I brought up some interesting issues that you have not heard in other reviews that should be considered. Overall, the brush is great, but certainly not for everyone :) I'll see you soon with a new video (Cleansing video, review of Baby Quasar, Hourglass concealer review, etc. etc. etc.) :D

Yours,
Michael

  • Finally! I thought I was crazy! I do agree with u, I have a brush that is too soft, and it's a blush brush, but it doesn't pick up any product!!!!!!! I haven't tried hakuhodo YET, but I do want, I've heard about them for a while now, im planning on buying 5 too hehe, till the end of this year I know im gonna buy some. Thanks for the review, u are great! And your skin looks radiant! xo from Brazil

  • @dehmorais Right? Haha, yes, some brushes are waaaay too soft to place products. If you have heard of Exhibit A blush from NARS, this brush can barely place any of the color on the cheeks, which is unheard of because the blush is so vibrant ! :) Thanks so much for watching, make sure to tell me which ones you ultimately decide on buying :)

  • I think it would be a good bronzer brush? I want that brush.

  • @momsthatlovemakeup It would be a great bronzer brush if you have a very fine bronzer...and it would also be ideal if you are pretty pale and want to go very light on bronzer. Otherwise, it may be a little bit to air-soft to apply bronzer. :D Thanks for watching and asking :)

  • There is a knowledge section on the Hakuhodo website. It explains the different types of hair available and what they are normally used for. I read that first and then made my choices and it worked out fine for me. The specs of each brush lists the length, width & depth measurements. It's about the only brand I found that provides this. It's funny that people say they didn't realize how short the handles were when that information was right there. The handles do come in different lengths.

  • @brushjunkie Right! Thank you for mentioning this. Yeah, I know a lot of consumers tend to over look the size specs on the site...but a lot of American's dont really even understand the "mm" markings, so it just seems foreign to them. haha. The site is also pretty vague about getting longer handles, I suppose you request this when submitting your order in the "notes" section? Thanks for watching!

  • Also, they have brushes that are more affordable, even cheaper than MAC. Some brushes have the same heads, different handles, and are priced differently.

  • I have quite a few Hakuhodo brushes and where it's made, in Kumano, it's an entire town comprised of brush manufacturers (like Chikuhodo, Tetsuya, etc). Also just as good as Hakuhodo. They just became more popular bec they make MAC brushes. :)

The brush that you have is made the way it is because of its purpose. So I think people shouldn't complain that it is not multi-purpose; there are other brushes that are multi-purpose. It doesn't mean that brush is not good at all or it's too soft.

  • hi! i have a big hakuhodo brush collection i dont know if you are interest because is in spanish, but it doesnt matter, just you can see the brushes and de pics lol Thank you! love..i subs right know to you channel

  • Although this is a good video, no other reviews seems to take into account the enormous heritage and history that these brushes stems from, and Are still made of today. They Are made for Japanese makeup techniques within Japanese theatre tradition.

  • Your eyes are so beautiful!

  • Naked animals xD damn

  • Omg.they are so expensive.:(

  • i love ur videos......i got HD foundation and do u think the \MAC 187 is the best to apply it with ? and can u make a vid difference between cheap and expensive brushes ?? thank u

  • @marandax

your not supposed to wet the wood it specifically says that on the website if you look under , how to care for your brushes

  • These brushes bleed color like mad if you wash them, so not worth it to me. Also the wood shrinks if they get wet. I would never buy another one!
