An intershow from January 1994 going from Married with Children to Real Stories of the Highway Patrol. There's an ad for the newly-rebranded PECO Energy and an ad for Acme Markets featuring the best jingle they've ever used. Then there's promos for a movie (Mr. Mom), Wonder Years, and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues.

WPHL had just unveiled a new look - hence the recordings - which tied heavily into the "Philadelphia" motif. It's well-designed, certainly, with a lot of custom graphics and music - as well as a really cool PHL 17 logo animation. Even though this was unveiled a year before the launch of the WB, and 18 months before the station dropped the "PHL 17" brand, elements of this look stayed with 17 for years.

Voiceover for the promos is Beau Weaver. I'm not sure who's doing the Married With Children voiceover.

  • January 3, 1994.

  • Sounds accurate - not sure how you could nail down the date that fast but it's definitely early January (this came from my Mummers 1994 megatape series...)

  • @thenbvstheenvy You must live around Millsboro, DE, as the Acme there closed in 2001 and became a carpet store. Thanks to Acme Style's blog for the info.

  • As of today, MyPHL17 is now just phl 17 :) the logo is still similar to my network tv, but they probably did it for if or when my network tv fails.

  • CHECK IT OUT! ACME STYLE!

  • Beau did voices for DreamWorks Animation movie featurettes too.

  • nice shot of the vet.

  • Tracked down the Acme sale ending date to a Saturday 1/8/94, then noted upcoming teasers for "Friday" and "Wednesday". Promos tease days of the week first, then will edit to do a "TOMORROW". Acme wouldn't have made that ad public until after the New Year. Sat 1/1 is off. Sun 1/2 is off because I'm guessing that PHL does a afternoon movie and Married With Children does not look to be a night syn. But I have my bets on the 3rd.
