We are progressing at a pretty good pace with our 2 year old Labrador Retriever, and he has made it to the first of two milestones in our force fetch training procedure. The first milestone is when the dog has been released from a fixed position and is allowed to move up and down the table on a moving tether while picking up the buck from either your hand or the table depending on what stage the dog has reached. This is the milestone that we are focusing on in this training video. By the way, there is not a set time period on how long it should take to make it to this milestone or how long it is going to take until you reach the next milestone. The next milestone is to take the dog off of the table and transferring the table work to the ground with what is known as walking fetch. The walking fetch training will be in an upcoming video.

  • Could that dumbell be any bigger!!!

  • It's a standard size training dumbell used for force fetch. So there may be a larger one available.

  • I'm 3 days into teaching my 10 month old lab bitch the fetch. So far she can pick a dummy/tennis ball/dowel and toy from hand and from the ground. She will hold for abt 30 seconds so far (working upwards slowly) and deliver from hand from a retrieve. This has all been done using a clicker and praise. Of all my dogs this has proved to be the quickest and most efficient way of training.

  • What a ridiculous way to train your dog.

  • I am sure you have heard this before, absolutely barbaric, poor friggin dog.this makes me sick when someone chooses to train like this.there are other ways.so sad.

  • Can I see a close-up view of the elbow part?

  • @SullivanOlssen

The table is just a place to isolate the dog it can be many things (bed of a truck, a place in the garage, etc) but the idea is that only work is done in that area and with those bumpers/bucks. Then when the dog is ready to be taken off the table you transfer the bumpers/bucks with them and it helps them tie the training together making a faster transition.

  • Why do you practice on a table, is that just for the camera angle? Why do you use the toe pinch? I've heard of ear pinch, and prong collar force fetch. I personally don't use the force retrieve, I prefer a happy working dog.

  • Thank you for the wonderful and highly informational video. It is the best force fetching video that i have seen on youtube so far. I am considering sending my dog to a professional trainer for his force fetch just so I don't screw it up.
