On his day, War Artist is still a top class sprinter. On turf or a synthetic surface. War Artist is one of those horses that's been like Presvis or Bankable or Alexandros. Every Dubai Carnival they show up at, they always manage to win at least one race, and War Artist has been no different. He won on the tapeta in 2010. Came back on won on turf at Meydan in 2011.
I would've liked to have seen Kinsale King show up at Meydan for this race as well as his run in the Golden Shaheen. War Artist ran a very respectable 4th in the Al Quoz Sprint on the turf. But as good as War Artist looked on the Tapeta beating Gayego in this race. I think he would've been better suited for the Golden Shaheen on the Tapeta than he was for the Al Quoz on the turf. JMO.
War Artist has always been one of my favorite sprint horses. He and Sacred Kingdom. He getting some age on him now, and doesn't win as many of the major G1 sprints as he once did. But make no mistake, for the majority of his racing career. War Artist has been rated right up there at the top among the world's best sprinters. He sure looked really impressive in this race. Granted, it was a G3 stakes. But Gayego is a G1 level colt, and War Artist handled him easily. Well done War Artist!!
