Rejected for use as the theme for the film, "Midnight Cowboy," but a great song nevertheless, and one that has been typically forgotten or ignored by oldies stations.

  • Only just discovered Harry , no thanks to 20 years of boozie hell . Now 20 yrs dry . RIP Harry .

  • @ruandted Congratulations (for being dry) and better late than never (for discovering Nilsson).

  • Nice work Trashcan! As a native New Yorker - (Brooklyn just like Harry!) but life long LA res, I've never known exaclty what it is about NYC that turns me on and so many others: the food, mix of people, perhaps danger at the nest block you're walking toward, the smell, crowds.... actually it's freedom! the freedom you feel in your bones and soul as you stroll Manhatten. You're on your own there. And if freedom is Your Lord, that IS where He is brother! Classic.

  • @MrRexkern Thank you. Personally I'm a train and transit buff, and nothing is more exciting to me than seeing the maze of ELs and subways. I cry every time they tear down another EL. But I understand your reasons for loving the city. And, of course, I'm a freedom lover, too.

  • Thanks so much for your upload MrT. I heard this recently in the film "You Got Mail". I'd forgotten it! But how could anyone forget such a great tune? This and Everybody's Talkin' have to be 2 of the best feel good songs of all time. I'm a Brit, and never been to the 'West Coast' but feel I'm there listening to this. I'm not sure it was New York he wanted, just somewhere better than where he was at at the time?? I don't know. But I sure use it for myself that way! God Bless you Harry xxx

  • Beautiful. Just plain beautiful

  • This song gives me the shivers, but ina good way

  • I'm about to go to school in 5 minutes. I'm so surprised that this doesn't have more views. I mean, I'm into bands like Radiohead, Nirvana, Bush--you know, those quintessential 90s rock and grunge bands. But sometimes, I just have to start my day off with some Harry Nilsson. It's so calming, makes me think of when I was younger and 'discovered' Nilsson. Man, it just kind of starts the day off right! If only my friends listened to this...

  • feeling like being in New York, anyone with me?

  • I'm having abit of a "nostalgia" evening here on YouTube, with the songs from "Harry And..." on my mind. I'm so glad you made this available... after "Everybody's Talkin'" it's my favourite from that album, and a shame it wasn't used in Midnight Cowboy. Thank you for posting it - you've made me smile BIG time. :)

  • Though I'm not a New Yorker, this song consistently gives me this feeling of warm calm. It's really a wonderful song.
