The Large Hadron Collider is the largest and most complex scientific instrument ever built and the highest energy particle accelerator in the world.
The accelerator is located 100 m underground and runs through both French and Swiss territory. ( 27km circumference)

Year 2008 September 10th, marks the culmination of 20 years of work by over 8000 scientists thousands of engineers, technicians and support staff from over 80 different countries.

some critics say that this could create a black hole and suck up the entire world. but many say that even if a black hole is created it will vanish within a millionth of a second..

  • Thats how i make my cereal every morning.

  • @MohammadAamirAbbasi waste of money? ha. don't even get me started. to find out how the universe works is what makes us human. and how do you what kind of spin offs of technology you can get from building such a device if you want a practical benefit from all experiments. when farady did his experiments on electricity, everybody said it was a waste of time and money. now we can't live without it. so this is cutting edge science and the benefits may not be evident right away

  • wow

  • Oh and by the way if you don't like money being spent on pure research then really you should not be using anything electronic. Don't forget YOU benefit directly from the pure research from the past.

  • Superb explanation. Well done!

  • @MusICfEEdsMysOUL825 Higgs boson is just an idea to push forward and finace the LHC project. It's kind of like a mask for you people to believe that this is the true reason it was built for. It even sounds funny that they spend billions of euros just to look for something that may not even exist. Well scientists are happy, they were given a playground but they don't care they are involved in a political game.

  • This is.not.real

    Right,right Oh shit:(

  • This isn't a waste if money. It's the result if human curiosity. It's to find the Higgs boson and complete the standard model. Resulting in knowing the origin of mass. Aka where the hell everything came from. It's not recreating the big bang per-say. It's creating similar affects to look for signs of the Higgs boson.

  • It looks the laser from the death star.
