OH MY GOD BAGOAS

As for Bagoas, while he is not mentioned in a few accounts, many of the historians of Alexander's time did write of him. The most famous example is the account by Curtius, who explicitly calls Bagoas Alexander's eromenos ("beloved"/younger male lover). Furthermore, both Plutarch and Dicaearchus recorded an event when Bagoas had just won a dancing contest during the return from India. Alexander's men called for him to kiss Bagoas - the scene in Mary Renault's book and in the movie.

Bisexual.
Gay as an identity is a 20th century construct. Before Judaism and Christianity got a strong foothold, bisexuality was very common. (the Third Crusade essentially failed because of a lovers' spat between Richard the Lion-Hearted and Phillip of France)
Alexander was married to Roxanne. That Hephastion shared his bed is not in doubt. Historians are mixed on the existence of Bagoas.

I thought Bagoas was the saddest character in the history of Alexander's life. See he was made into a eunuch at such a young age and passed around as a sex slave until Alexander took him in. But even then, Alexander probably only loved Hephastion and Roxanne. Bagoas was like a servant than a lover. -_- I hope Bagoas did eventually find true love, though he wasn't important enough to be followed by historians of that time...Still, I wish Alexander and Bagoas would be together...

@TheAquarianWarrior Much more than simply pretty! He's a god! *__*

Bagoas (Francisco Bosch) sure is pretty.

What are you talking about? A class of men, selected for their beauty and effeminate manners, were castrated for the benefit of sexual deviates who preferred them to women. Bagoas
was one such. He may have known Alexander. The whole concept is at odds with Islam, wwhich does not uphold
homosexuality. Homosexuality in Persia was NOT the truth, or there would not be
present day Iranians. Homosexuals don't have children, grandchildren or descendents. OK with that?
-
Greeks called it persia ,from Perses the son of Greek king perseus and princess Andromeda. Read herodotus book 6, sections 61 and 150. Iranians never called their country persia always "aryana"

Allright please let me know what the Persians called their country all these centuries.
Who called it Iran, and who called it Persia ?
-
i know persian is not even a iranian word, never was. KIRAM TO KOONET iran
Whoa! Intersting guy. And I can't believe that an US-made movie actually dared to keep the homosexuality in greek antiquity. I mean, just look at 300. Just for that I might have to rent this movie.
Excellent choice of song, too.

You noticed the lack of gayness in 300 too? I mean the Spartans were famous for keeping their boys away from women until they were middle aged almost. Homosexuality from king to soldier was the extreme norm. But we can't have that in a tough guy film can we? XD
