Richie Havens - I Started A Joke
Lyrics:
I started a joke
Which started the whole world crying
But I didn't see
That the joke was on me
Oh no
I started to cry
Which started the whole world laughing
Oh, if I'd only seen
That the joke was on me
I looked at the skies
Holding my hands over my eyes
And I fell out of bed
Hurting my head from things that I'd said
Till I finally died
Which started the whole world living
Oh, if I'd only seen
That the joke was on me
I looked at the skies
Running my hands over my eyes
And I fell out of bed
Hurting my head from things that I'd said
Till I finally died
Which started the whole world living
Oh, if I'd only seen, oh yeah
That the joke was on me, oh no
That the joke was on me
Oh, oh

@fmazzar pop music isn't popular anymore, i believe it is dance music you're referring to, dance music is all that is being play on the radio these days. but there are plenty of modern great songs, you just need to go out and find them.

Nice. Mr. Havens does the song justice, unlike certain children of popular protest singers.

When did pop music stop being well written 2-3 minute masterpieces? Today a pop song is just a bunch of grunting and swearing and smelly breathing Richie is a lot of fun to listen to when he is doing his cover versions....He was great at Woodstock and he is still wonderful and joyful to listen to...

Great ! Always liked this song by the BeeGees , but Richie does a nice cover. There was this awesome video on here a few weeks back of Richie singing "Trouble in Mind" with the Preservatio Hall Jazz Band. It was the finest version of that song I've ever heard , but it was taken down because of some copyright stuff. If you're a Richie Havens fan , you have to hear that.

Richie Havens is is awwwwwwwwwsome. I love his "Freedom" sung at Woodstock. As rousing as Mel Gibson's "Freedom" in Braveheart. "Sometimes I feel like a motherless child, a long long long way from home."
