Are the numbers on the bolt, trigger housing and such serial numbers, or are they part numbers? Should they match the number on the receiver?

No, that's now how it works with the Garand, unlike, for example, Russian made mil spec rifles, or German. The number on the receiver is the rifle's serial number that allows you to find out when it was made, the barrel has its own date on it, other parts can also be dated, by their own unique numbers. The Civilian Marksmanship Program has a way of "grading" rifles. Check it out.

Great video! Just got my M1 Garand and am terrified of breaking it down as you have done but I realize that I'll have to get over that to properly care for this gem. Thanks for taking the time to post this and for the book recommendations. Several I hadn't known of and plan to purchase.

One final unrelated question, can you tell me what video editing software you used to create this? Looks very professional! Thanks

Thanks for watching. I suggest you go to the Civilian Marksmanship Program's web site and check out their forum and technical section, lots of great information. It's really not too hard to take it all down. The trigger group is a tad daunting, but I've done it several times now and it gets easier each time.

I'm simply using an iPhone 4S to shoot the video and using iMovie to process and edit the video.
