In his keynote address, Dr. Craig Barrett, the retired CEO and chairman of Intel, discussed new challenges for business leaders, the increasing role of government in business and how Intel has used technology to do good. Barrett was awarded the Botwinick Prize in Business Ethics at the 2009 Social Enterprise Conference. The award recognizes an outstanding leader who exhibits the highest standard of ethical conduct in business or the professions. Professor Bruce Kogut, director of the Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. Center for Leadership and Ethics, presented Barrett with the award. The 2009 Social Enterprise Conference took place on October 9 at Columbia Business School. The conference shed light on the entire process for social ventures -- from vision to specific practices -- and addressed how organizations can gain momentum and strength during the global economic downturn.
