  • Thanks for the advice. The mouthpiece is a plastic Brillhardt copy that came stock with the horn. It has been opened up by the Mouthpiece Doctor. I'll work on the harshness.

  • again, good playing and it would be better ifyou chose a slightly slower, easier piece until you got comfortable with all the alternate fingerings and such of a piece of this calliber, also work on staying in time, use a metranome with a speed thatss comfortable for you. finally your sound on the mf, f and ff is incredibly flat and blowy, and harsh. try to tightn your ambouchore on the high and lound notes as well as use your chest insted of your throught to push dark, hot air,

  • Material doesn't matter when it comes to mouthpieces. If the dimensions were the same in both a metal and hard rubber piece, there would be no difference in sound. What does sometimes occur is if the player is not correctly using the throat on a metal piece. The embouchure might be different due to metal pieces are generally slimmer than hard rubber, but the throat needs to be similar as if playing hard rubber. This allows for the richness of the tone to come out, to project, and not be harsh.

  • Technically pretty close but a few things to watch out for...

It sounds like you are playing on a metal mouthpiece, which is making your tone really bright and too harsh.

I would work more on staying together with your accompanist.

Make the piece dance more, especially off the top, separating the notes will do wonders for the style.
