This is to mark my return to regular uploads, after a few months without my old music files. In early June, I had to return my computer, and at the same time had som problems with my recording equipment. As a result of this, I lost most of my music files, and it is only recently that I've gotten it all set up again.

To start me off, I've chosen a haunting swedish tune from 1937. It is played by an unknown band (whether it is a "real" one or a studio combination I have no idea). The chorus is sung by Lasse Dahlquist (1910 - 1979), famed singer, songwriter and actor. As September 14, 2010 would have been his 100th birthday, you will be hearing more of him this summer and autumn - on mine and (probably) other channels.

From Cameo 512, recorded in August 1937.

  • Great recording. The Swedish label, though, is unknown to me. Absolute rarity!

  • @phonomono78s The Cameo label sold quite well in Sweden throughout the 30's, and so did its sister label Grand. Thanks for your comment!

  • Thank you! Great recording!

  • @dairyman716 I'm glad you like it!

  • Truly wonderful!

  • @MrXnews Yes, I suppose that's one thing we'll never know. Possibly they wanted to profile themselves as modern and up-to-date? The sister label, Grand, had a very similar design.

  • @Emidicta Interesting! I wonder why they [Turitz] didn't use the "Cameo" profile drawing on their labels?

  • @MrXnews Actually, there was a slight relation. The Turitz corporation of Sweden (which produced this record) imported U.S. Cameo records in the late 20's. They also registered that name as a trademark in Sweden, and in 1933 took up production of their own version of it.

  • I'm guessing this label had no relations to the American Record Corp., which bought out Cameo (U. S.) in 1929.
