At a BBQ I attended last night I met an old Brooklynite who knew Johnny well and said he was a brilliant live showman. He had befriended Johnny in Brooklyn where Johnny was from - I never knew that - Wiki has absolutely nothing on him, not even his name. Anyway the guy had nothing but praise for Johnny as a performer, and human being. He had a few stories to tell that were charming. These are always heart warming things to hear and I thought you'd like to know.
Just seen Johnny Thunder on my Alaskan cruise on board Royal Caribbean's Radiance of the seas. He was great, It was worth every cent for the trip to hear this brilliant performer sing the classic Loop De Loop live.. Not only is he a great artist but also a beautiful person.
Teddy Vann, co-writer of the 1963 Johnny Thunder hit, "Loop De Loop" as well as 1991's "Power Of Love" by Luther Vandross, died of cancer in Brooklyn December 6 at the age of 76.He also produced songs by the Bobbettes, Jimmy Jones, Dave "Baby" Cortez, the Essex and former Ronette, Estelle Bennett (who was also his sister-in-law). As an artist, he's probably best remembered for the 1973 recording, "Santa Claus Is a Black Man."
I was 3 weeks from being born when this song was in the top 10.

Did you know Teddy Vann? I worked with him to make a record that went nowhere. (I play piano) He claimed to produce Loop de Loop.
