Just as the title states, I shot this video to show the end of a ear on the Port Road. Norfolk Southern is in the process of taking down the steel posts that once held up the electric catenary where Pennsy / Penn Central / and Conrail electric locomotives once ran. Even though the catenary has been gone since the late 80's, it's sad for me to see the last remaining evidence of that heyday in Pennsylvania railroading history vanise forever. Gone- but not forgotten!

  • They can't do that! They're tearing down PRR class! The day they yank the position lights off the Port Road is the day where things officially get sour. And to think that the OCS is running over the line tomorrow (today, 9/1)

...wait, since a healthy amount of the PRR position lights were mounted on the catenary posts, does this mean all new ugly signals?!?!

  • @AliceInChains243 That would seem to be what's going to happen. I didn't realize that NS was doing this so soon. I'd love to get my hands on one of those Pennsy position signals when they tear them down. But yea I agree with you totally, the Port Road won't ever look the same again once they're done!

  • @tartopfan that would be hilarious and ironic

  • Ah another thing, sold to history

  • I totally agree! I grew up in a small village north of Kingston. The CN Smith Falls sub ran throught there up until the early 1980's. It's all gone now...sigh. I really wish I had of been more into photography then! That line was originally the Canadian Northern line. Thanks for sharing this historic happening!

  • You said it Kenny. I'll still ask older gentlemen (I'm 55) what thing were like or done. Funny thing is now I'm starting to be asked. Thank goodness guys like Emery Gulash and others shot all the video that they did. Excellent.

  • Just wait cause in the future [probably in 2020] Norfolk Southern might have to put up girders & cantenerys For electric locomotives scince they're going green.

  • ah how sad so sorry this is happening
