Love those sophisticated New Yorker Saul Steinberg drawings in the opening credits ending with Hitchcock's name over the corpse. It is very sophisticated and way ahead of its time.

One of my all time favorites! I wish I knew those quirky characters. Everything from the brilliant acting, Bernard Herrmann's elfin-march music, the lush Vermont scenery to the witty one-liners is right on. Ol' Hitch truly was a genius!

I think you're right about it being one of Hitch's few comedies, hence not as well-known. But To Catch a Thief and North By Northwest are definitely comedic. So maybe the difference is that they had Cary Grant and this one didn't.

I found Mildred Dunnock's character in this truly terrifying, I don't know why.
Glad you posted this. It's a terrific film but not one of Hitch's better known ones, again, I don't know why.
