Till the End of Time [Chapter 17 Part 3]

JOE: So, are you sure you are okay? You don't need me to do anything else for you?

BRYNN: *Laughing.* Joe. It's okay. Go home. Get some sleep. You stayed with me the entire night.

JOE: I got enough sleep.

BRYNN: *Giggling.* Oh, well that's true. You were talking in your sleep when I woke up a few times.

JOE: Are you serious? Awwwweeee mannnnn, what did I sayyyyy?

BRYNN: Nothing really...

JOE: Brynn... I'm so embarrassed...what did I say?

BRYNN: Well you said...um...oh it doesn't matter. You were asleep.

JOE: What did I say?

BRYNN: Nothing. You weren't awake.

JOE: *He could tell that something was upsetting her.* Brynn, something's wrong. What aren't you telling me?

BRYNN: Well, okay, I'll tell you. Um, you were asleep, but... but you said...that... that you were in love with me.

*Joe just stares at Brynn for a moment, and she looks at the ground.*

JOE: Does that bother you?

BRYNN: Well, no. But you were asleep when you said it. It's okay. I understand.

*Joe stares at Brynn for another moment, then takes her hands. When she looks at him questioningly, he smiles softly at her.*

JOE: Brynn. I want you to know... I really think I might be love with you. And I'm awake this time when I'm saying it. *Brynn smiles at him, and he continues...* And I was wondering, will you be my girlfriend?

BRYNN: *Grins up at him.* Of course.

*Brynn takes her hands out of Joe's grip and places them around his neck as he leans down to kiss her. After a moment or two, Joe smiles under Brynn's lips and angles himself so he can push her back against the door, still gently kissing her. Finally, Brynn realizes that she has to get inside. She slowly pulls away from Joe. He gives her one last kiss and backs up, helping guide her, with the use of her crutches, through the doorway, where her mother greets them. She tells him that she and her husband have just gotten home from Washington DC, and they thank him for taking care of their daughter. Giving Brynn's hand a final squeeze, he turns to leave. Back out in the car, Kevin stares at Joe incredulously.*

KEVIN: Okay, where the heck did that come from?

JOE: *Still slightly in a daze.* Where did what come from?

KEVIN: Oh don't try to pull that one on me. I was sitting right here. I saw you two making out on the porch.

JOE: And?

KEVIN: And? And? Joe... Why? Why did...

JOE: *Defiantly.* I kiss her? Because I wanted to. Because she makes me incredibly happy. She's amazing.

*Kevin just stares at his brother.*

JOE: And I asked her to be my girlfriend when we were on the porch, if you were wondering.

KEVIN: And...?

JOE: She said yes.

*His eyes sparkle, and Kevin realizes how sincere his brother was, and that he really did care for Brynn. Kevin smiles at his brother.*

KEVIN: Well, then I'm happy for you.

*Joe smiles with relief that his brother isn't disapproving or critical of one of the happiest moments he can remember, and leans his head back towards the sun, taking in the beautiful day.*
