I always liked the overall sound of this Elgart group--it was sharp and well rehearsed--precise, immediately apparent as to who it was, nice smooth sax sound (not much vibrado, and usually only 1 color note in a chord), and especially the way the bass bone around those pedals (here with large C quite a bit of the time) drove the rest of the brass sound. Anyway, I really dislike how commercial they were-- however, they ++ prospered when other big bands were disbanding right and left.
I've always loved the smooth FAT bass sound of the Elgarts! It was 2 years ago I thought to come here for the great sounds that had vanished from the airwaves. I've arranged my 15,000 favorites so anyone can enjoy them along with me: 700 playlists covering over 400 artists, 100 genres & every year since 1900, so you can listen as if you've stepped back in time. I cannot begin to say how grateful I am to those of you who post the music, you're my heroes! chuck
What fantastic rhythm the Elgart band had; whoever made their arrangements was talented indeed.

It must have been WONDERFUL to dance while listening to this fantastic big band music. Think I was born "in the wrong time" sometimes :-)
