This video in our Antiquing with Your Best Friend series shows how to be smart when you shop for glass. It's important to avoid getting glass with wear or damage and we'll show you how.
Have you ever gotten a piece of glass home and then discovered it had chips or wear? That's so disappointing. Learn how to check glass for damage to save yourself frustration and money.
We show how to inspect a Florentine #2 Poppy yellow depression glass cream soup to find nicks and rough spots on the rim and handles. The key here is to check the seams on the handles to make sure they are smooth.
Then we go over an Old Colony pink cereal bowl from Hocking Glass. The other name for Old Colony is Laced Edge because of the fancy rims. These rims can get nicked on the tops, sides and even underneath.
Next we find what to look for in iridescent pieces by seeing a Doric iridescent pansy shaped candy dish and a Floragold ruffled bowl. Iridescent pieces are so pretty when the iridescence is smooth and rich.
Last piece in this video is a Royal Lace cobalt blue plate. Royal Lace has a sharp inner rim that can get nicked so easily. Always check the inner rims!
