MOCK CODE TRIAGE

So today was Omahas mock Code Triage drill; this was my first year participating! The whole story was that there was a plane crash, and tons of people were injured..in the event of such an emergency Omahas Medical Table is set into place, and all of the hospitals work together to treat the patients. Tyson Pierce and I got off of work, and we ran down to Offutt to get checked in. We were disappointed when the body artists told us that we had only breathed in smoke, for our only injury was a bit of smoke on our faces. =( The plane went down at 9:25..had it not rained we would have actually went on the runway and had heard big blasts of fire and such.darn!

Well, both of our injuries were classified as minor, but Tyson and I worked HARD to cough every time we saw a medical officer. Eventually we were put on a bus to be taken to a hospital. Now, the people here had everything from leg wounds to arm wounds to face wounds to back wounds..there was even a pregnant man! (And yes, he went into labor while waiting for the medical professionals to arrive!) The artists had told us that we could actually EAT our wounds.they were made of some kind of food. We continued to dare each other to eat them! It was an all-out good time!

Tyson and I were picked to go to the Offutt military base hospital which means one thing..army dudes! I totally played up the card. When we got off, Tyson and I continued to cough, and we went through decontamination. HUGE guys with alien-looking body suits were spraying us down! PERFECT day for a shower! Because Tyson and I continued to cough and play it up, we were switched to delayed and immediate. Walking through base hospital WET AND COLD, I continued to play it up. I went to so many military personal, it was NUTS!

I encourage you to watch the attached video of my journey; I discovered a few things on this adventure. #1 the more you play up the card, the more hard core into it everyone gets.you see the military people think it is part of the test! If you just start breaking out in cardiac arrest, tons of nurses and doctors come in to help.lol LOVE IT! #2 Continue playing the cardsthere was actually a time when the doctors were thinking about actually life lighting me to another hospital for extreme treatment. AWESOME!!! Unfortunately, the choppers were all busy at the other hospitals. #3 Because Im a civilian and am the injured one, I can totally walk around calling people Dr., and Lieutenant and get away with itPress the elevator button, Lieutenant. (then when she looks at me, look wounded.) or, I think I need an extra juice to wash this down, Dr. ..LOVE IT! #4 The few people that tried their wounds claimed that they were good. It might be fun to try next time!


I cant wait for next year.Im going to do whatever it takes to get on that chopper..Im thinking head injury or broken legsI might even be nice to them and break out in cardiac arrest on the ride!!
