There was great coverage of the whole event, but where was Geordie?

Yeah. Should provide a local FM transmission. So we can all 'tune in'.

While it was pretty funny watching a world-class runner unable to walk a few feet on the netting that much older and weaker boat guests had no trouble with, it could have turned way serious if another AC45 was behind Spithill. They would have been fishing Michael out of the water in two or three chunks.

I missed this while watching the race, and I was wondering what happened. We couldn't hear the commentary from where we were. That's something the ACEA needs to work on - lots of spectator areas had no audio or couldn't hear the few speakers that were set-up. More speakers or a limited area broadcast for portable radios or a smart phone audio app would help.
There are other "little things" they need to work on, such as adding a female voice to the broadcast team, and bringing back Geordie.

If you were never on the ship to begin with, can you abandon it?

Couldn't see the events. NBC did not broadcast. So did he abandon ship during the race?
