NBN News marked the 20th anniversary of the Newcastle Earthquake with a series of reports looking at how the earthquake unfolded, the aftermath, the recovery and the potential of it happening again.
Most of the footage associated with the earthquake came from NBN (also known then as NBN-3, or even Channel 3), being the ONLY commercial TV station in city in 1989. Of course, this doesn't take into account those who managed to pull in a signal from Sydney, and aggregation didn't happen until December 30 1991.
The final part of their series aired on December 30 2009, and looked at the potential of it happening again, and the relief concert held at the Sports Centre (now EnergyAustralia Stadium) in the weeks after the quake.
On a personal note, I was there in Newcastle (Hamilton actually) when it happened, staying at my aunt and uncle's house. My dad, who was a member of the local SES at the time, was called into action to help out. And for the smart-arses out there who know me personally, no, I did not cause the earthquake, I was only 4 at the time, and wasn't that fat back then.
I'll put up the rest of the clips in due course. I've encoded them in a YouTube friendly format (1280x720), so hopefully it'll come out nicely.
