YWCA Tulsa Stand Against Racism: Race and Female Incarceration

Over 45 groups joined YWCA Tulsa to take a Stand Against Racism on April 30th, alongside dozens of other communities across America.

Oklahoma has the highest rate of female incarceration in the world. As with other cases in the criminal justice system, we also incarcerate women of color (specifically Native American and African American women) at greater rates — while granting parole and probation to white women at higher rates. The Solutions Initiative Summit (http://oklahomasis.com), dedicated to addressing the incarceration crisis, took a Stand Against Racism as part of their conference on April 30th. This video outlines the problem and the need at challenge the system creating this inequity.
