For many decades activated carbon has been indispensable for treating drinking water. Alongside the ion exchanger activated carbon plays the main role in MAVEA filter cartridges. The activated carbon that we use is made exclusively of coconut shells and activated via hot water vapour. The purpose of activated carbon is to absorb substances such as chlorine which impair the smell or the taste from the water.

  • MAVEA is the best water filter I have used! This is a truly green solution compared to other water filters. MAVEA manufactures their own products and is based in a small German town, providing local support for their community, but also eliminating the environmental impact of manufacturing in "environmentally unregulated" locations in the world. The filter has the longest life-cycle and can be recycled at one of their designated locations. MAVEA rocks!

Enjoy your MAVEA water! Cheers -IW
