@AngellicalGirl :) Its the duty of man to protect and provide for his family. Women is exempted from the duty of providing for her family even if she is richer than her husband, so, 2 for male:1 for female. Man is the leader of the house! Both are equal but different.

The verse about marriage says that "if you can do justice". Men in the West can have 20, 30... mistresses but when it comes to a maximum of 4 wives, who have rights, then it doesn't go down their throat. :)

Here's some passages in the Qu'ran that pertain to lack of women's rights.
