"Mutation: it is the key to our evolution. It has enabled us to evolve from a single-celled organism into the dominant species on the planet. This process is slow, and normally taking thousands and thousands of years. But every few hundred millennia, evolution leaps forward."
-Prof. Charles Xavier, from the movie X-Men

Actually, this piece has nothing to do with x-men. But there is a point where the tempo really speeds up, and I think this quote would be sort of fitting, haha! My brother suggested this title, and I think it works because you can see how this music evolved from my perspective as a composer. This piece really started when I was goofing around in drop D tunning and played an Am7 chord followed by a D in the bass. And then I arppeggio-ed a few chords, decided to tune the B string up to C, and the piece developed from there.

This is the same tuning as Development by Antoine Dufour. The funny thing is I didn't realize it until I was writing the fast section before the tempo slows down again. The chord that begins that section is the same as the first chord in Development.

The photograph at the end was taken by Kwok-Tung (Daniel) Cheung. Email: kcheung@indiana.edu

Another great thank you to my friend and bandmate, Steve, who has given me his Taylor guitar while he is studying abroad in Austria.

  • theres no high quality button.

  • huh. that's strange. oh well haha

  • I definitely see the "I don't know what my right hand is doing" in some of your music - it sounds like it just comes out naturally. I would imagine sitting down and trying to tab it would be a pain because it's not easy to play this stuff slowly and get it exactly the same.

Still, I hope you do make tablature in the future. I'd buy right away!

  • the best I can do is make a close approximation. When I have the songs copyrighted and have a record deal (hopefully), I would make video tutorials on how to play my stuff. that's probably the best way to learn. but right now I'm still afraid that people might steal my music

  • I seriously LOVE this form of guitar playing, TEACH ME! lol I dont understand how you manage to play lead and rhythm at the same time. (Sounds like Andy McKee)

  • thanks! can't teach yet because i don't even know what my right hand is doing sometimes haha. As far as playing melody and rhythm at the same time....yeah its tough. Just takes practice i guess
