Amtrak 73, which is very fouled, leads a 20 minutes late Coast Starlight 14 into Salinas. I was VERY glad they did a silent (bell only) type departure, because 73 would have made me go deaf.

  • Nice shots! Isn't the Salinas station near some type of yard?

  • @CaliforniaRailfan101 Not really, there's a local that runs up around Kings City but I don't recall any yard in Salinas.

  • Why do they stop so fast like that if they don't need to ? Doesn't that wear down the breaks unneccesarily?

  • @AVincent2 Those brakes on those cars really do sound that bad no matter how bad they stop, I imagine it might wear them down a little more, but not too badly. Of course overtime it would add up.

  • Nice!

  • Thanks.

  • This vid is as hard core (actually a tad bit more hard cor'er) than the Winnemucca Amtrak vid because this vid was shot in my old railfanning territory near where I used to live in California.

  • It doesn't deserve it LOL

  • Poor 'ole 73, doesn't get ANY respect...!! Jk, LoL!!!
