  • Djent is a big misconception. It's an onomatopoeia and that's all it ever should be. Otherwise we should start calling power chord a genre.

  • @konsco Agreed

  • @6Hellbilly6Deluxe6 That's a bit tough. A big part of me wants to go ahead and say "Djent-y" enough for the classification. But if it were to be official and you were looking up bands that would be considered in what the genre would be known as, I wouldn't really be surprised at all to see them there. In my opinion, I don't feel wrong calling them djent-metalcore, I feel they edge enough on both sides to have that name.

  • @AntagonistInPhoenix

i get your point... but the generally accepted djent (with all its polyrhythms etc.) existed before the djent technique and tone... it literally is just one type of metal that picked up the technique most quickly.

Take UK band Exist Immortal... i woulden't call them djent (the genre) but they use the technique heavily and do have the progressive feel.

maybe i just hate the cubby-holes since my 'Djenty' Metalcore post hardcore band's is a mouthful

  • @6Hellbilly6Deluxe6 The thing is, djent, when associated to a band as a genre, means a bit more than just the technique. I guess you could kind of think of it as levels. Plain use of the technique is just djent. Using it heavilly rhytmically or in a rhythmic progressive pattern qualifies as more than the technique. Of course, i'm sure it won't be enough to call some stuff just djent anymore like you'll get name combinations.

  • @6Hellbilly6Deluxe6 obviously, if you take the term djent literally , yes it would be. But if you look at plenty of songs that are called djent, you'll start seeing a pattern- That's my whole point, and if there's massive differences then that's the whole point of adding to the type. As far as Plot in You goes, they're missing a lot of elements that makes fall into the djent category as we know- a much heavier rhythmic use of the technique, or a progressive element.

  • @AntagonistInPhoenix

Searching for Djent is similar to searching for Metal.

so go ahead... if you don't mind the massive differences between bands that use Djent (a guitar technique as far as i'm concerned) two bands i would put forward Messugah and Plot in You... enjoy :)

  • @nolan650 it honestly should be a genre, otherwise how am I going to find more good music like it? :( what would I type in the search? believe bitch too much about the name many have adopted. I don't want to have to type 4 words just to find more music like this unless it's the bands name or song or having to write just "progressive metal" or just "metal" too many things will fall category and i'll never find this. problem isn't the name, we just need a solid definition for the word.

  • @nolan650 You're ugly

  • @konsco You're dead on the money... people have been ignorant and moronic about this since the beginning of time or at least since the 80's when people made the same argument for "shred" being a genre. People in every single genre besides rap and dancepop can shred and just about any kind of music can use a double octave chord for that matter.

  • all of you people saying djent isn't a real genre are just djealous.

  • there's no polyrhythms in this
