I have hyperhidrosis, and I can't feel "all-right" while playing any kind of strings that isn't Elixir. I play Bass Guitar and Electric Guitar, for bass strings I can use other brands, since the strings are thick, but for the guitar, I feel somekind of fear while bending a non-elixir E string. And thanks bro, you saved my money! I was about to order a set of SHIT.. er I mean DR strings.

Scott, i need some help. My plain steels are rusting, hate that.. What should i do?

I heard that you have many sets with the coating on the plain steels. Care to share?

@SiCF1ST Hi my friend. All of the Elixirs have the coating on the plain strings also. Not even a hint of discoloration on any of my 150 guitars that are strung up with these. Even after YEARS. So, don't fear, all 6 strings are coated.
