Hi, Nick. I recommend to you a great and wonderful book I finished five months ago, It's called : "Sophie's World", it tells about philosophy.
Sophie receives strange anonymous messages in her mailbox : Who are you? Where does the world come from?

Hey.. its good that youve found something to take your intrest and pass away the time.. sometimes I found myself feeling bored of everything. I have read some books this summer too! all hallows eve, the kills (which im still reading now) i read a place of safety, but that didnt intrest me so much and read the bible at various times. i have read other books too, im not as into it as you are though

I read the Witch of Portobello after you recommended it. I loved it. You should make the Nickas Arbata bookclub a regular feature :)

Hey...I'll be in Iowa starting on Monday as well. If you are in the Des Moines area, we should get together for dinner. Regarding your summer reading, do you ever read Nonfiction? If so, a great nonfiction book to read would be Collapse by Jared Diamond. This is a must read if you are at all into nonfiction.

I loved Pillars of the Earth! I read it many years ago, and chuckled when I saw that the cult of Oprah brought it back, but I love that it got folks reading it again. I've been doing a lot of rereading, since I was able to get my entire library out of storage. I'd recommend 'The Way of the Peaceful Warrior' by Daniel Millman. I mainly read scifi fantasy, but if you don't mind that 'Dragon Prince' by Melanie Rawn is good. 'Lammas Night' by Katherine Kurtz is good too.

I wish I were more into reading fiction books. I recently picked up Pillars of the Earth from the library. It looks pretty good! I like history so I'm sure I'll enjoy this, even if it is one of the longest books I've attempted to read! lol
Iowa isn't as bad as you make it out to be. I've traveled pretty much all over eastern Iowa and I'd have to say that overall it's a pretty good state.

a198 - I didn't make Iowa out to be such a bad state, I just said there's nothing to do there where my mom lives. I lived there for 10 years myself and know that it's a good state! but many, MANY parts of it are BORING AS HELL! You have to agree that that may be a true statement! :-)

There is a nice bookstore called McNally Jackson in NoLita, on Lafayette Street at Prince. Nice selection and a nice atmosphere.

I'm reading The Power and the Glory by Graham Greene and not too long ago I read Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, which is a beautiful novel.

lensherr82 - thanks for tip! I researched Siddhartha on Amazon today and I bought it! I'm very interested in Buddhism, so I'm very excited about this book! Thanks again!
