  • do you ever run into bad situations? like randomly on the street?

  • @OfficialCarly Not really. I mean, like any city there can always be some bad thing that happens, but in general I have found NYC to be a really safe place to live. There are always people around so you are never alone with some crazy in the street unless it is like 3 AM or something.

  • how about getting a job if I am an immigrant? I've been there for several times but only to visit my family. I'd be grateful if you could help. :-)

  • @skinnyxranger I think, like any country, it is kinda hard. You do need the work permit. I guess there are some things you can do under the table, like bar tending, waiting tables, but it is better if you do it legally.

  • Just a thought...maybe people only use their apartments to sleep and eat because they are so small. LOL

  • @lostindiancamp That's exactly it! Sometimes you cant' even entertain that many people at your place becasue of the size.

  • My friend is sharing a one bedroom in Chelsea and it is almost $3000.00 per month. He and his roommate both work 2 jobs, they don't have many things, or own cars. But when they aren't working, they are out and about with friends and always seem to be doing neat things. There are a lot of free or cheap things in the city, and they seem to catch a show or concert now and then. What it comes down to is this...How bad do you want to live there cause you have to WANT IT. It's not for everyone.

  • hi all, im am from europe and im planning to move to newyork next year, there r a few things i like to know before i move to newyork, what is the average income when u work in new york in places such as restaurants or electronic stores, ect. ect. and how much in average does a house cost with 1 room and 1bath? im looking for the cheapest, im looking for a house in a cheap part of newyork, thanks in advance...

  • Hey! Great info. Much needed. I'm 18, about to serve 4 yrs in the Air Force, then I'll use the GI Bill to go to college in New York. Probably starting at a community college then transferring to NYU hopefully. Do you know of any community colleges that have dorms? Or are the places around the colleges relatively cheap? Please and thank you! If you have an email that you would like to tell me so we can talk more it would be the best! I'm visiting for the first time tomorrow. wow am I so excited!

  • @thestreetdogg That all depends on what you seek to have a quality life.

  • @Itsmee45885 You have to take the date of this vid into consideration 6yrs old. A weekly metro card is $29 monthly abt $108 single ride $2:25. Food is not the same the super market is more pricey here compared to other places. You can find good deals but you have to look for them so on that part he's right. Get a room-mate!!! Especially if you want to live near your school you may even need 2 to have accessible amenities & keep costs down. I'm no exper here since 12/2000 moved from WA.

  • @mattzync Hey man, first of all, thanks for replying! And a bartender? I wouldn't of thought that too be a sort of starting out job. But yeah, that sounds good. Also, what about an apartment? Like how much would I make as a bartender? Would that be enough to get an apartment? Also, how much money should I save up before I finally make the move? And how do I get a work permit? Sorry for all the questions, mate. Thanks.

  • @codismyBxTCH Hey mate! Well, it is hard to work if you don't have a work permit but usually the best job would be a bartender or waiter if you can do that. You should see if there are any Australian bars in New York that want Australians to work at them.
