This is a short tutorial on how to make a matte painting using Finial cut pro- Photoshop- motion and soundtrack pro. Ill only be using the most basic tools in these programs. NOTHING ADVANCED. but as you will see it does work. This is to give you the IDEA on how its can be used.

matte paintings use to be done on glass back before digital came out. star wars used many in 4,5 and 6. its an art that will slowly fade out. but this way is much easier.

Yes there are other more advanced ways to do this- but im just trying to give you the basic idea so you can take this and down the road advance the idea to greater heights.

this is BASIC matte painting for a simple digital effect. this can be done in about 1 hour or 2. I wanted to show a simple and effective way to do a matte painting for kids in high school or just fooling around with a project. This is under the assumption that you know the basic tools in these programs

The sound effects used are in soundtrack pro under ambient sounds " wind" and radio squawk. in sound effects.

I kept a small black gap at the bottom right and the end of the piece so you could see where the matte is. if this was real I would have covered that up with a piece of white and you would have never seen it. but i purposely kept some black to show you where it is in case it was hard to see before. for any questions or problems your having just ask.

I WILL NOT TOLERATE THOSE THAT USE BAD LANGUAGE, MAKING FUN OF ME AND WHAT I DO, OR GIVING RUDE AND OR OUTRIGHT CRUEL COMMENTS , YOU WILL BE DELETED AND BLOCKED .......... PERIOD!

enjoy

  • I could use gimp instead of photoshop right?

  • @DynaDuctINC Sure, this is just top show you how its done with photoshop. but if you have another program that can do the same thing.. then yes of course you can.

  • Cool. You need screen capture software though, even if filmed like this is more immediate or something. ;-)

  • @SteveDurnin you dont need anything but what i used here. if you dont have that then its time to upgrade.

  • Nice job! Looked cool at the end!! :)

  • @robb21572 thanks!!!

  • OMG, you sound like Doug Walker, the Nostalgia Critic @_@

  • @bedlum47o7 Just a suggestion, put the matte painting on top, then use the layer mask & blend the two together, works pretty well that way.

  • @Cam95G this was for those who had at least a decent editor. but thanks for the info.

  • Lol you can get a similar effect if you crop the top a bit & then use the 'picture in picture' effect from iMovie.
