Roy Rogers is the featured guest in this episode of This Is Your Life. Guests from Roy's past include the Reverend Bill Alexander, Minister of The First Christian Church in Oklahoma City. Reverend Alexander married Roy and Dale in 1947, riding to the wedding on horseback.

A former school teacher of Roy's, Guy Baumgartner, tells a story about Roy's pig which won first prize in a county fair contest. Roy's parents and three sisters appear next in an onstage family reunion. The original Sons of the Pioneers, who traveled extensively with Roy, perform Tumbling Tumbleweeds with Roy joining in.

Dale and the Rogers' children join Roy onstage followed by none other than Trigger!

This is a touching episode with Roy appearing shy, humble and quite moved by the experience. The episode is believed to have aired on January 14, 1953.

Note: Host Ralph Edwards tells Roy that the program's viewers sent in more requests for a show on his life than anyone else in the country.

  • A few years ago or so I read his autobiography (titled: "Happy Trails: Our Life Story"). It contains many wonderful anecdotes about his life behind the screen, his home life. Honestly, it reads like something innocent and wonderful out of the tv show Leave It To Beaver. Obniously Roy adored his family and the home they shared together.

  • @classicphile Thanks Marc. Your comment speaks to the integrity and high moral character of this American legend.

  • One story in the book is when Roy was making a personal appearance where he met a cop. The cop told Roy that as a child his parents beat him, but he was a fan of roys tv show and would keep himself out of trouble by asking himself "what would roy rogers do". And that now as a cop he finds he is still asking himself that same question from time to time.
