@vibratingstring Sorry, I didn't know the V15 had that problem. I used to sail 505, Laser, Fireball etc and didn't get the sort of problem the V15 has. I know each class has their own variations.
I don't know where the "California Roll" label came from. I used to do this before the Laser was invented. It ought to be called the "Solent Roll". I was one of the first people in the UK to right a dinghy like this. Maybe it should be named after me !!!!! haha.
@biscayforce12 ..except that on the V15, there is absolutely positively *nothing* to grab onto on the gunwale. The hand grabs are to far inside and the gunwale is "rolled'. And hard to reach the shroud for same reason.
The jib is tangled. For some reason that also happens a lot on the V15.
I find it better to patiently semi-right it, let the wind push the nearly horizontal mast/sail around, and then right it head to wind. With ^ wind/waves scoop the skipper so that you have ppl each side
Been doing that for the last 35 years and it's not a "California Roll". The guy didn't even do it properly. He should have grabbed the new windward gunwale before the boat righted itself and then it wouldn't have capsized again. You have to do it with confidence so maybe the guy was a beginner.
@biscayforce12
Haha Solent Roll.
I wouldn't be surprised if Uffa found himself doing this at least a few times, so Solent roll is apt.
California Roll? Probably named by a Californian :-)
