Chapter 37: Demi

Well lunch was over, sweet.......now I'm just confused.
"Here Demi I can take that for you" I looked over at Cody who was motioning to grab my tray.
"Its fine, Ive got it" I told him.
I noticed Cody glaring at Joe briefly "No Demi, let me get it for you"
I sighed "fine" I passed him my tray and walked towards my next period. I had hoped I would walk with Joe, but while Cody and I were talking I noticed him leave out of the corner of my eye. What a drag this was, morning, class, lunch, class, cheer.....ugh- I really wanted a change something fresh. I walked into the change room and pulled on my cheer uniform.
"Oh my gosh, I think he totally digs us" I heard Taylor beam.
"I know, why else would he sit with us at lunch"
At first I didn't know who they were talking about but after a few seconds it was clear they were talking about Joe. I fumed slightly, couldn't they just leave him alone he had enough to deal with let alone their annoying attempts to pick him up. I pretended like I couldn't hear them and lingered in the change room. I wasn't sure why I was getting so possessive about him, its not like we were dating. Its just ever since he told me about his mom I realized that he had a lot more going on in his life. I shouldn't be angry with my friends they have been there for me when I really needed them, even though they didn't know it. I sighed and walked onto the field.
"DEMI!" I heard one of the football players call at me.
I turned around "Whats up?" I yelled back
"Check out who's the best thrower" Jason called at me
I just smiled, I guess their coach hadn't gotten here yet since he would probably kill them If he saw them flirting around instead of practicing. "Sure" I said walking over to them.
I saw Joe laughing at something out of the corner of my eye and I felt my heart soar. What was going on with me? I was probably just happy to see him smiling. Jason called over Joe's name and I immediately looked down waiting for them to form a line.
Joe, Caleb and Jason all stood at the throwing line Kay "Demi, just watch who throws it the furthest."
I nodded and watch them swing their arms back then throw the ball out of their hands, I was secretly hoping that Joe would get the furthest throw, so I watched his throw the closest. Sure enough his ball got the furthest, and by a long shot. I ran over to it and picked it up reading the name off the ball.
"JOE WINS" I yelled
By the time I got there all the cheerleaders and football players had gotten around Joe and were congratulating him. As soon as I got to the circle I squeezed my way to get to the middle and handed Joe his ball. He looked up at me as soon as he saw me and gave me a smile. I handed him the ball "congratulations Joe, your officially the best thrower on the team" I told him with a teasing smile.
He smiled at me "Thanks Demi"
The rest of practice passed by in a haze and soon I found myself sneaking out of my bedroom window to meet up with Joe.
"So Joe, hows the group therapy going" I asked him
He sighed "its going. I mean I dunno..talking to you really helped me a lot" he looked up and smiled at me.
We were sitting in the forest just staring at the stars. I turned to look at him "I'm glad" I told him honestly.
"Demi?" He said in a questioning tone turning to look at me staring deeply into my eyes.
"Yeah Joe/" he really took my breath away. In the moonlight he looked perfect.
"Can you do me a favour?" he asked quietly
"Anything.." to be totally honest, there wasn't anything he could ask me that I would refuse. It seemed pathetic when I thought about it. but it was true.
He smiled lightly "my dad and brother are coming down this weekend to visit me. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind coming along...for moral support" He continued to stare into my eyes.
"Of course Joe" I gazed into his eyes, I was so glad he was finally letting me into his life "I want to be there for you"

Hmmm...I wonder if you've noticed but you posted the previous episode and this one with the wrong numbers.... It's supposed to be 36 and 37.... But other than that, this is like the cutest story I've ever read!
