Pavarotti almost always sounded glorious, but the role lies a little low for him. Pavarotti's real glory is his high voice. That's why you hear more dramatic tenors singing it (although John Mark Ainsley did an amazing job with the Munich production a few years ago).

@aguacun Yes, although (annoyingly) it's the shorter version that Mozart revised for the Vienna concert. 'Torna la pace' is also sung here in its truncated version.

Great here... did he sung Fior del mar on this performance?

@ILBARONE45 yes i have the recording of that aria, in which Pavarotti is singing idamante's non ho colpa e mi condanni...

Did he sung on this performance "Fuor del mar"?

This is the way in which you should sing Mozart - the Italian way!

Oddly there are all these comments on Pavarotti's appearance rather than on his sound. I think he looks like a movie star here. To me he looks startingly like Jack Black.

Idomeneo is shpwrecked on his return from Troy. Thats why he lloks desheveled
Luciano is beautiful here [as always] but because his dishevelled wig you can recognize here by his amazing and beautiful eyes and of course his amazing voice. BRAVO LUCIANO I LOVE YOU. and thank you Carolina.

BRAVO MODENACON; Eine vollkommene wiedergabe der arie. I just now understand your user name.. Pavarotti Birthplace. This is a wonderful recording, one I never viewed prior. It is amazing that one of PAV's first operas was as the Son 'IDAMANTE'. That was how high pitched his voice was. God Bless & Thank You; BARONE.
