Maiden Newton is in Dorset. It once was the junction for the West Bay line on the coast but that was torn up in the early 60s. It is on the line from Bath to Weymouth. Maiden Newton is deceptively quiet with the peace interupted every two hours or so by trains calling in.

  • @countval01 Actually, you're both right - the section from Bridport to West Bay was closed completely and lifted in 1962, but the Maiden Newton-Bridport section survived until May 1975. The section from Maiden Newton to the outskirts of Bridport is being reopened by Sustrans as a cycletrack - good news.

  • The line to West Bay was not ripped up in the 60's, it survived Beeching and did not close until the mid 70's I believe. Good vid , thanks.

  • What a beautiful station Rob, and some great undercover work as always...5* Bob
