part of aria B "Ächzen und erbärmlich Weinen"

Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, baritone. Yehudi Menuhin, violin with Mstislav Rostropovich, cello continuo. Filmed 1974.

Johann Sebastian Bach: Cantata BWV 13 "Meine Seufzer, meine Tränen"

Aber wer gen Himmel siehet
Und sich da um Trost bemühet,
Dem kann leicht ein Freudenlicht
In der Trauerbrust erscheinen.

yet he who looks towards heaven
and concerns himself there for comfort,
for him a light of joy can easily
illuminate the sorrowful breast.

  • what you meant with 2 superb musicians? in my opinion dieskau is one of the greatest too; and i also think you're worried about facts that does´nt matter like the baroque "thing", c'mon, just enjoy it, anything else is just bla bla bla...

  • Three superb musicians together, how sad that two are now gone, but thank God that Dieter LIVES!

  • Two of my hugest idols are in this performance: Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Mstislav Rostropovich. I saw both in recital in Philadelphia many years ago. They shall never be surpassed...long may they live in our hearts!

  • Please tell me the source of the video, is it available on dvd ?

  • Woher ist das Video?

  • Fischer+Rostropovich+Menuhin +Bach= 10/10, El cielo!!

  • Bach's sublime humanity deserves to be so wonderfully served by these 3 masters. A profound joy and privilege to hear them. Thank you so much for sharing.

  • I love that beautifull music and those great musicians. However, the more parfect detail in this video is where come from those musicians One Jews, one Russian and the other German. I love that.............

  • is there a recording of this around?

  • Wow, three great musicians at work. Simply brilliant. Shame we don't see more of the performance, what was seen and heard was great though.

  • Kondrashin conducted a concert earlier in the year - there was a celebration of the Concervatory Jubilee - you can find clips on YouTube. The one I attended for Beethoven Jubilee year, if my memory serves me right, was conducted by Svetlanov. As to the state of the Moscow Phil. Orch. - you know, it is a matter of opinion and as always with opinions - everyone's got one :)))
