Hello again, from Dave (M0OGY).....This is the inside view of the 48 hour special events station of "GB5CQD" on Sunday 25th January 2009. This station was put on the air in commemoration for the devotion of Marconi Marine wireless operator John R Binns, who saved the lives of 1600 people when his ship the R.M.S Republic, was in collision with the S.S Florida, on 23rd January 1909 .This was the first time "CQD" was used to save lives via wireless.Around 3 years later the more widely known"SOS" became the norm. The station was the idea of local Amateur John Allen (M0JAE), and with the help of The Scunthorpe Steel ARS ,their members and other local Scunthorpe/Brigg Radio Amateurs the station became a big event. In this video the Deputy Mayor of North Lincolnshire Mrs S. Armitage can be seen looking around the station. The bands on Saturday were not too good , but on Sunday we had large pileups on 20/.80 meters. Many station when I operated on 20 meters giving 5/9+ reports ,as far as Texas in the USA......Thanks for watching my videos, and further details are on QRZ.COM....PLEASE feel free to post comments if you wish!!!!....73's and good DX DAVE (M0OGY) North Lincolnshire UK.
