there is no cuff sensor, electronic monitors sense slight pressure changes in the cuff while deflating caused by the brachial artery pulse. The reason they tell you to position the cuff so that the tube is over the brachial artery is because most cuffs that come with home monitors are made so that the mid point of the cuff is positioned over the artery, thus getting a more accurate reading, as putting the cuff on backwards will result in a different pressure exerted on the brachial artery.
Would be useful for you to learn where the sensor is in the cuff, as you placed it in the wrong place on the arm. A mistake made by many hundreds of thousands of people using these monitors.
The sensor in most cuffs is at the same point the air tube is, so this should be placed off centre to the right of the arm. Check your pulse using fingers to locate correct position for the sensor. How many people have been given incorrect readings because of this common mistake? Biceps have no pulse.
