Don't pay any attention to new age books that tell you not to meditate to acquire spiritual perceptions or progress but to just be in the moment. That is bullshit, the purpose of deep breathing meditation is to circulate the chi energy through your body to stimulate the chakras which will give you the ability to remember lucid and meaningful dreams, increase sensitivity, develop a stronger bond with your intuition, and develop natural psychic perception without the help of demon spirit attachments.
