I just put this HSS pickguard on my Stratocaster, and threw a GFS Mean 90 I had in there. Here's a demo of what it sounds like.

Amp in use is a VOX AD15VT, on the UK 70's model and the BOUTIQUE CL models, maybe a little NUMETAL at the end, but it's all VOX AD15VT.

Guitar is a 1996 Fender American Standard Stratocaster that I just put a HSS guard on.

  • modified? very noisy, which amplifier do you use? that Vox AD in the back? nice playing anyway

  • @megamicron Yes - I'm using the VOX AD15VT. It has a noise gate, but I don't use it, since it has a noticeable and unfavorable high frequency dampening effect when on. Ye olde "blanket over the amp" type of thing. Thanks!

  • your tone sounds huge, hard to believe its coming froma 15 watt valvetronix

  • Thank you --- and I tell everyone, these Valvetronix amps are ideal apartment amps. I have a Blackheart Little Giant with JJs and a 1x12 with a Weber Blue Dog behind me, as well as a pile of nice pedals, and I'd rather use the VOX for demos like this --- it's just so easy to dial in a great tone.

  • hows it compare to the roland cubes?

  • I tried both and like the Valvetronix better. VOX Valvetronix amps have a 12AX7 in the power amp section, as opposed to the preamp section like on other modelers. The Roland has no tube at all. Not that it matters, but I just straight up think the Valvetronix sounds good.

  • Ouch!! throw that amp out!

  • Great tone.

  • gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme that cake!

  • @reditreefrogs "I wouldn't recommend buying them because they are cheaper"... very funny!!! I've bought something like 20 GFS P.U and never had problems, maybe you are the problem..

  • I got lured by the cheaper prices that GFS sells their stuff for over the net...

Compared to an actual Seymour Duncan the price is less than half...I own 3 different model pick ups by GFS and so far I have installed two and had issues with wiring (PAF) and hum noises when the volume is turned down (EVH)...

I wouldn't recommend buying them because they are cheaper, the sound is horrible compared to a higher priced better made US pick up.

All GFS products are manufactured in China...

  • Freaken sounds fantastic! That Mean 90 turned out to be a perfect match for your Strat man. Wow... Sounds like a real P90.

  • I have an ash strat body and a mahogany/rosewood bolt-on neck, and I am going to do a single hum guard with either a mean 90 or a surf-90. You should try the RW/RP 7.5K Brighton Rock in the middle with the Mean-90. I think they will match well, and they do really good with alder bodies and maple boards.

  • hey joe where you going with that gun in your hand, hell yea.you should do red house
