UAB Women's Basketball teamed up with local elementary schools for the 2012 Books for Baskets. Each participating school automatically received $1,000 in books from Barnes and Noble. Students at each school were asked to submit special writing pieces. The winning writers at each school received an additional $500 to Barnes and Noble for their school. The participating schools then receive a visit from UAB Women's Basketball players and a chance to compete in a shoot-out. Their scores are put against the other participating schools. Hueytown was one of the four winning schools from the shooting contest. They will compete for a grand prize of $4,000, a 2nd place prize of $3,500 and a 3rd and 4th place prize of $2,500 all in gift cards for books at Barnes and Noble on January 29, 2012 at 2PM in Bartow Arena.
