ADAMTS13, a protein, helps regulate clotting by cutting through von Willebrand factor, which catches platelets and helps them clot. Inhibiting ADAMTS13 can cause TTP (thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura), a blood condition in which excessive clotting occurs in the body. For more information about clotting and other blood disorders, visit ASH's patient resources webpage http://hematology.org/Patients/.

This animation was featured in the documentary film "Blood Detectives." To learn more about the film, visit http://www.hematology.org/Publications/Blood-Detectives/5246.aspx
