  • ( Continued ) And it's not because I have a problem sleeping either .. my body just wants to do it naturally . I can't help it and if I try to help it then I can't get to sleep at all . I need FREEDOM when I sleep not rules and confinement like I'm in a sleep prison LOL

  • @MulattaPride, Changing sleeping habits is very hard for some people. But to sleep on your spine is the most ideal and has given many people relief that they didn't know was possible from this simple change. Since this is not your choice, you can still find ways during the day to support your spine and help support your good posture.

  • Will this exercise also help tone your arms too? It seems like a great exercise that works all around for improving posture! :D

  • @XoXoLaughoutloud That is a nice by-product! You do have your elbows bent and bicepts engaged to some degree.

  • how do you sleep on your back?

  • @leonx360 Sleeping on your back is the best position to support a healthy spine. For the neck, a cervical pillow is ideal. You could easily get from the internet or a back store. If you are comfortable in this position then lay straight and sleep tight. If you have issues in your low back or your hip flexors are tight (which is common), then add a small pillow under your knees. This takes the tension off of the psoas muscle and your lower spine. Hope this helps.

  • this is real good, hardly anyone talks about sleep, i always sleep on my shoulders and stretch them out too much =-(

  • I think I generally have a good posture, I stand up straight only my shoulders seem to tilt forward a little still (Considering I've recently lost 80lbs of mostly fat, that's probably why, body fat percentage is now 15.5%), it could also be down that I do a lot of road cycling and that requires me to be arched over. All I need to work on is sleeping on my back, will have to see about getting a cervical pillow.

  • i cant sit up straight... how despressing.

  • what kind of therapist should I go to for my winged scapula and to work on posture. my guess would be a physiotherapist?

  • I have done the exercises and held my shoulders back and sat up straight for nearly two weeks and my back and shoulders ache so much and its still not natural because i have to hold myself there all the time, even sleeping on my back i force my shoulders back and down and its hard to sleep because im not relaxed. What am i doing wrong?

  • merci beaucoup, Dr.Natalie...these were really helpful tips

  • Um SORRY I cant fall a sleep on my back, believe me, I've tried, I always end up turning over to my stomach and I also don't stay in one position through the night either because staying in one position to long gets uncomfortable, It's like me tossing and turning is my refresh button, I need to refresh my sleep position periodically through the night .
